The New Precision Guitar Kit Hardware Test Fit
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.Месяц назад
It is a good idea to get in the habit of doing a test fit for your hardware when you start a new guitar kit. This matters more for some aspects of the hardware than others, but regardless it's a good practice. It is even more important if you are doing a thick automotive style finish, which is what we have going on this guitar. Find the hardware: www.solomusicgear.com/?ref=1512 Find the guitar ...

Still one of my all time favorite channels
Good to see you back, I'll keep watching and waiting for the next video - Cheers Brad
Great video
Thanks brother! Every time I run into a situation you have humble answers. I appreciate you.
I know this is an old video, but I've been trying to learn and there a lot of opinions out there without any real reasoning behind them. I like how the opinion here is grounded in reasoning. Appreciate it.
But the enamels like Rust-Oleum says right on the can to wait a few minutes between coats. Even the can is telling you to spray coats before it dries. So confused.
I am onto my final clear coat for my latest kit build and I've been using the nitro kit from Oxford Guitar Supply. I have to say, I absolutely love their products and thank you for recommending them. I've also ordered a tee from them too .. I think they look cool. Keep doing these awesome builds whenever you have time Brad. They are really helpful and slowly building my confidence.
How about take the mic out your shirt so we can hear you
I'll start a YT channel to pick up some slack for you :)
Much appreciated!
Be back whenever you're ready. Using what I've learned from you, I re-finished 5 of my guitars that came to me in pretty rough shape. All with DupliColor automotive paint in spray cans and two of them with metal flake color coats. They have all come out beautiful and no one who has seen them ever realized that they are not the factory finishes. Now, when I walk through the grocery store parking lot, I'm always on the lookout for car colors that would look good on guitars. 😀
Hey welcome back! New baby, new life and its challenges.
Thanks. The little one hasn’t been keeping me away so much as work has. But I already don’t get enough time with her, so I have to prioritize haha.
Hey Brad, You have been a delight to watch, very informative and I have learned a lot from you. Take care of the stuff that needs to be taken care of, and we'll be here when you get back. There are times in life when sh't happens and it's beyond your control. As you know I had quite a hick-up in my life. I was teaching graphic design at a local high school, and the next thing I know is that I'm fighting for my life. Nothing that a double transplant couldn't fix ; )
Wow! I just saw something online. Congratulations! God bless you, what a joy. It will change your life. Mine are all grown up, actually your age now.
Thanks. The kid is wonderful and worth every minute of the time commitment. With my “day job” I already don’t get enough time with her, so the videos have to take a back seat to that unfortunately.
Thank you for the brief update...from those of us who have families there, is no need for explanations just take it one day at a time and, as Red Greene says, "Keep your stick on the ice." We will still be here and your family will be better off as long as you keep your priorities straight. I look forward to future updates. Patience IS a virtue!
Thank you sir. I do appreciate the patience.
Brad, you can take whatever breaks you need, we appreciate anything and everything you do for us
Thank you. That’s very kind of you.
Just good to see ya man ...I went thru what you are now.,in 1992... getting old...👍
Haha sounds like you made it through ok
Welcome back brother
Thank you
We understand things happen. Glad you're moving forward with these projects.
Thanks Ben
Life definitely has its twists and turns, but I always appreciate you making time for us!!!
I appreciate you watching
With the catalyzed stuff you’re using can you use the same can more than once? You should spin it in that drill driven rattle can mixer. 😁
The pot life is about 48 hours once activated.
Good to see ya B-Rad
Thanks Austin.
Catalysed ?
Yes
Me and you lives are too complicated
100%
That is some really amazing art Brad!
Thank you
@@BradAngove oh, haha, I see I already commented! 🙂
The Precision Guitar kits, but also all the techniques I learn.
I left a strap on my Flying v in the case and it textured the back of my guitar. What is the best way to smooth it back out? It has a nitro finish.
Great vid..thanks
Hi Brad. Great video and exactly what i was looking for...almost. i have a basswood kit that it indeed sealed. This one os laser engraved Paisley pattern on the front. I was thinking of hitting the front with a poly lacquer black and yhen sanding back the raised parts. Then apply Angelus dye. That was what Derek at Big D did but frustratingly he keft out the actual sanding process. I'll wing it. Question about ckear coat. I am a recent convert to Spraymax 2K. Can i use that over the Mohawk dyes? Should i seal it before i clear coat? Thanks
Yes, you can use it over the dye. I would generally seal it first.
Well my dumass fell victim to the step(s) saving polyshade crap ! Instead of saving time I’m just a little over 4 hrs getting that nasty crap off my project . I walked right into that one 🤦♂️
Sorry to hear that.
Good video. So many videos assume everyone is knowledgeable in all the areas and often people are not so you explaining everything is probably a big help to many novices. I have the same gun but the earlier version (FLG3). I picked up a few things from your video about it ! Only thing I would add is your much better off keeping the couplers to an absolute minimum so it keeps the gun much more nimble, light, and from dragging the air line across your paint job. I hook the regulator like yours DIRECTLY to the gun like it comes new. You can actually tighten it enough by hand using the Gauge for gripping or use a wrench. Then add the air Chuck at the bottom. Or even better a SWIVEL air chuck.
Hi. I made craft sail boat out of Balsa wood. Do i apply a sealer or primer before painting it?
I guess it depends on what you’re going for, but as a general rule I’d expect a primer for marine applications.
So much learned from your content Brad. Greatly appreciated. Might I ask where in Canada you are located? Just bought a kit and have a neck fit issue I'm not sure how to correct. If you're in my area I'd love your input.
I’m in Edmonton. You?
@@BradAngove Langley BC
Where the video on how to correct & paint it after you have paint spitted on car engine hood?
You sand it back and spray it again.
Great tips. Took awhile for me to disassociate alcohol from guitar but i know thats a personal problem. Wouldve rather just got into the guitar build from the very start. This was very informative.
Glad you liked it
cannot afford a name brand guitar that has a much tone as a Warmoth made a handful of telecasters from them <3
I wonder if mineral spirits is better then water
You should be a hair model. Make ten times as much.
10 times as much as what?
@@BradAngove , 10x as much as a poor woodworker. Ha
Haha I see.
McDonald’s employees make more than I do with this hobby haha.
Holy shit that’s so smart
Do you do this step after you've stained the guitar, prior to applying poly?
for 10 points was it Alice in Chains?
It was not
@@BradAngove haha
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I have a brand new guitar with a buzzing cheap tune-o-matic bridge that was driving me nuts and ordered a new Gotoh bridge plus Gotoh 510 locking machine heads… and then realised I had no puller that I thought you needed to extract the insert. So you kind of saved my ass. Cheers.
Glad I could help
Guess i'm child. I couldn't open that shit until this video
Happens to the best of us haha.
Love how the rounded heel and the roses came out under that finish
Thank you
are you DONT need to do it?? Well, really telling me that if my guitar is ALREADY sealed, painted, etc, I DONT need to do it?? OF COURSE you dont need to seal and paint your guitar if it is ALREADY done?? Come on, man.
I’m answering a very common question that I get. Does that upset you Mark?
When I resprayed a mirror with a canned clear coat, and then tried to put wax on it, the wax simply dissolved the so-called "clear coat"
I’m not sure what you used, but wax doesn’t dissolve paint. Your wax would need to have a solvent in it for that to happen.
@@BradAngove It was a Meguiar's Gold wax. Thing is that this was a 1K clear
Yeah, I polish and wax 1k clears frequently. You can melt them or burn through if you’re too aggressive with the polisher, but the wax shouldn’t be dissolving them. That’s quite surprising.
Which one is best for chrome wheels?
I’m not sure that you can really clear coat over chrome.
i picked up a guitar body thst was painted with oil paint whats the easiest way to remove it
I’m not sure what kind of oil paint you mean. First thing I would try is a solvent to see if that will remove it. Probably acetone or lacquer thinner.
@@BradAngovebasically its art paint my buddy used to paint the body but i was able to get the paint off with a razor
@johnoverbay576 ok, that stuff should be relatively easy to remove with chemicals, scraping, or sandpaper.
So you're not gonna darken the headstock to match the body?
No, I’m not doing anything else to the headstock.
Which one would you use on a gas tank?
The 2K. Gas can melt the others.
